Self-proclaimed Tikhanovskaya: “I left Putin an opportunity”
Russian President Vladimir Putin supports his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, which allegedly threatens relations between the two countries.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the self-proclaimed winner of the presidential elections in Belarus and the “leader of the nation,” said this in an interview with Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
“Putin’s support for Lukashenko is perceived in Belarus as an approval of violence: torture, rape and murder of civilians, and this has led to a sharp decrease in the number of those who consider Russia a friendly country. And this is a really big threat to our future relations,” said the oppositionist.
The publication recalled that Tikhanovskaya once said that she highly appreciates the managerial abilities of the Russian president. The newspaper also asked why Putin prefers to rely on Lukashenko, who, according to Tikhanovskaya, is barely holding on.
“Yes, I left him [Putin] the opportunity to change his approach to the situation in Belarus. I think that a comprehensive discussion of the situation will help him better understand the nature of the crisis occurring in the country,” Tikhanovskaya said.
