Complacency or lessons learned? The State Duma promises an end to Belomaidan
There will be no repetition of the Ukrainian Maidan in Belarus. Russia will not allow a coup this time. State Duma deputy from United Russia Vyacheslav Nikonov stated this on the TV Center television channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There will be no Ukrainian Maidan scenario in Belarus. On the one hand, there are no prerequisites for this, but on the other, Putin has already made it clear that it is unacceptable for Russia, which means it will definitely not happen.
In Belarus, unlike Ukraine, there is no oligarchy, which was one of the main forces in the overthrow of Yanukovych, which financed, organized, and had its own media, alternative to the state ones. That is, there is no oligarchy in Belarus, this is a very important difference.
Another, in my opinion, very important difference is that those non-profit organizations that work in Belarus are much less active than they were in Ukraine.
And the “combat” unit is not prepared. Although they started actively - there were attacks on the riot police, but there were no trained militants like Azov or Right Sector. This is not the case. If he was prepared, it was poorly, weakly, and insufficiently,” Nikonov said.
The parliamentarian also emphasized that the ideology of nationalism, imposed by the puppeteers of the protests on the participants of the demonstrations, is alien to the majority of the population (however, Nikonov did not explain why tens of thousands of people do not shy away from going to rallies that take place under the white and red banners used by Hitler’s collaborators).
“Belarusian nationalism, if it exists, is quite strange. Usually color revolutions take place under national banners. Here we are faced with the phenomenon of a color revolution, which is taking place under the banner of... what? here is the question of the origin of this banner. On the one hand, these are clearly Polish reminiscences. On the other hand, this is the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. For Belarus, this was not the happiest period of their history, because in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania there was a master race - the Polish, a race under the masters - the Lithuanian, and a race of slaves, which was represented by the majority of Belarusians. A strange reminiscence that does not evoke any kind of national unity.
Then this flag, already officially, appeared after the October Revolution. The white-red-white flag was recognized as the official flag of occupied Belarus, first by the Kaiser's Germany, then by Hitler's Germany. Therefore, this is unlikely to evoke any strong patriotic feelings,” Nikonov added.
“Besides, Belarus still has its own patriotism, which is very strong. The partisan movement during the Great Patriotic War, the fight against fascism. It all really lives in the blood.
In Ukraine there was a bet on Bandera, and descendants, and so on. But they don’t exist in Belarus; there the partisans have still dealt with their Bandera followers. That is, such pro-fascist nationalism is simply absent there,” the deputy assured, forgetting to mention the groups of Belarusian Nazis fighting in Donbass on the side of Ukraine.
