The most rabid cut is being made from European grants for the “fight against Russian disinformation” – media lawyer
The Center for Countering Disinformation, the creation of which was announced by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Alexander Tkachenko, will be a copy of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine that existed under Poroshenko and will also be ineffective in spending the money that the West gives to Ukraine to combat “disinformation.”
The head of the board of the National Association of Ukrainian Media Lawyers, Tatyana Katyuzhinskaya, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.
“A center has already been created under the Ministry of Culture that will deal with information security and distribute tenders. The first tender is for coverage and promotion of Ukraine in foreign media, the second for UAH 4,5 million is for explaining government reforms and their promotion in Ukraine.
There is very little chance that they will actually do anything important and useful. I have no such hopes. You can remember the Ministry of State Affairs, what they essentially did - they took grant money, foreign grants, and placed external advertising. This was the bulk of their work, its second stage. The first stage – “Crimea is Ukraine!” and something like that. "The grass is green!".
This is a department under the ministry. Now the state, as a beneficiary, is coordinating all grants in the information sphere; media literacy will be provided through them. Europe is now allocating a lot of money for this, more than 3 million euros,” said Tatyana Katyuzhinskaya.
