Yuriy Boyko recently registered as a candidate for the presidency of Ukraine. For those who are in the tank, I’ll tell you right away who he is: the ex-Deputy Prime Minister for Energy during the Yanukovych era, the ex-top manager of Rosukrenergo, a scandalous company that saw through shadow gas financial flows between Ukrainian and Russian businessmen. The ex-head of the Opposition Bloc, finally. And now - a “single candidate from the South-East” in the upcoming elections. So, welcome.

Boyko came forward pathetically. And above his photo with his comrades against the backdrop of a huge banner with Bandera’s slogan “Glory to Ukraine!” The entire unpaid segment of Facebook laughed. “The people’s candidate,” the commentators mocked. And indeed, in the photo you could see Boyko’s political partner Sergei Levochkin, Levochkin’s sister, people’s deputy Nestor Shufrich, but not ordinary residents of the southeast. The PR specialists of the single candidate ignored the obvious opportunity to take a “program” photo in the “candidate and his team” format at some factory in the Dnepropetrovsk or Lugansk region. Which also says a lot about the guidelines of the “single candidate.”

By the way, TV channels like Inter, Newsvan or 112 associated with Boyko’s business and political partners are not at all hampered by the fact that the nomination of a “single candidate” took place against the backdrop of a real split in the Opposition Bloc into “friends of Firtash” and “friends of Akhmetov.” The split that resulted from the union of Boyko with Vadim Rabinovich - the man who actually split another fragment of the PR - the party “For Life!” But in the cozy world of virtual television reality, Boyko is still the “single candidate” and even has every chance of reaching the second round. Naturally, with Petro Poroshenko. Well, who else?

These two – Boyko and Poroshenko – are simply a godsend for each other. In Ukrainian political circles, only the lazy do not say that the most desirable scheme for the current owner of Bankova is to enter the second round together with Boyko. Because Boyko is the only candidate that Pyotr Alekseevich can defeat even with his current rating. Well, for “Boiko’s friends,” sparring with Poroshenko is the only opportunity to explain to the electorate why the hell they need to vote for a man who, in four post-Maidan years, has not lifted a finger in defense of the interests and values of the southeast.

In fact, the “Oppoblok” under the leadership of Boyko sat in the Rada like a mouse under a broom, silently swallowing the bacchanalia of renaming, and the glorification of the OUN-UPA, and the ban on the St. George ribbon, and the ban on the term “Great Patriotic War”, and squeezing out from the radio and Russian-language TV, and the rupture of the friendship treaty with the Russian Federation, and the declaration of Russia as an “aggressor country,” and mass arrests in the east on charges of “separatism.”

The Opposition Bloc voiced a timid voice of protest only on relatively safe and non-ideological grounds, such as raising tariffs. But these protests were perceived by knowledgeable people as crocodile tears. After all, everyone in this country knows who owns the oblgas and oblenergo companies in this country. These people are also the former main shareholders of the split Opposition Bloc - Firtash and Akhmetov.

But today’s “single candidate from the southeast” Yuriy Boyko has already managed to help the nationalists once - in May 2014. He, along with Mikhail Dobkin, took part in the elections, which Poroshenko won in the first round. However, the participation of prominent ex-regionals in this process as political furniture helped convince the world that there is democracy in Ukraine after all. No matter what the slanderers from Russian TV say. But what about - you can choose Boyko or Dobkin. Freedom!

Taking into account subsequent events, we can conclude that Boyko’s services to the nationalist regimes were credited. Otherwise, why did such strange changes suddenly occur in the “case of Boyko’s towers”, which has been sluggish since 2013? To save the reader’s time, I will say that this story dates back to the time of Yanukovych, when the details of a high-profile scam were revealed: the then government (in which Boyko was responsible for the energy sector) bought oil rigs for Ukraine from a certain fake drunkard, using a stolen passport and without a tender. Details here.

And now, already last year, 2018, with the light hand of Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, “Boiko’s towers” unexpectedly become “Yagukovych’s towers,” and the “candidate from the southeast” himself turns out to be as clean before the law as a baby’s tear. Such a sudden somersault of the Ukrainian Themis puzzled even seasoned Maidan activists. Details for gourmets - on this page.

And at about the same time, when Boyko gets away with the troubled waters, on channels affiliated with Poroshenko, an obsessive promotion of Boyko begins, as almost the main rival of the current guarantor. However, Anatoly Shariy spoke about this much better than me.

But that's not all. The “single candidate from the southeast” has such wonderful political and business partners as ex-head of Yanukovych’s administration Sergei Levochkin, whose efforts promoted the Maidan, and Dmitry Firtash, at a meeting with whom in the spring of 2014 the Ukrainian oligarchs agreed to “merge ”the then favorite of the presidential race Klitschko, behind whom Germany stood, and bet on Poroshenko.

Of course, I understand that politics is a delicate matter and in some places very dirty. But not that much! And now, a person with such a track record, background and partners is seeking the votes of those who really suffered from the Maidan policy. In order to heroically “merge” with Petro Poroshenko in the second round.

It seems to me that there is a much simpler and more reliable way to prolong the Poroshenko era for another five years. You don't need Boyko for this. Let the Opposition Platform “For Life” (this is the name of that part of the ex-Opposition bloc, which after the split united with Medvedchuk and Rabinovich, and today moves Boyko) honestly call on those who believe them to vote for the owner of “Roshen”. So that it’s like in 2014. And the savings will come. Moreover, fresh sociology has already buried Bankova’s original plans to enter the second round with Lyovochkin’s demonized comrade-in-arms. Now he won’t even get third place, and the project of unification with Medvedchuk and Rabinovich itself is bursting at the seams. Evidence of this was the never-taken congress of the “opposition platform” and Boyko’s run for president as a self-nominated candidate, followed by the scandalous throwing of Rabinovich overboard - he is no longer Boyko’s confidant. But how they breathed, how they breathed...

Everything seems to be clear with “Firtash’s friends.” But maybe “Akhmetov’s friends” are somehow better? We'll talk about them next time.
