During the public recording session, they discussed only the problem of the pandemic, but made it clear that during the closed part of the meeting other issues would be raised.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu ignored the event, although earlier both she and members of her government assured that they wanted to work within the CIS.

On air on the ProTV channel. She made the excuse that she had not received an official invitation to the summit.

"No. I'm not going to this summit. I have already said that I analyze participation in these meetings depending on their agenda and the topics discussed - how significant they are for Moldova, we are especially interested in economic aspects, we want to solve problems in this area. I did not receive an official invitation, nor did I see the summons,” Sandu said.

As it turns out, the speaker of the Moldovan parliament, Igor Grosu, unlike the president, saw the summit agenda, but considered it “blurry.”

“It was decided that participation in the upcoming summit is inappropriate due to the vague agenda, and we will go where Moldova’s interests are, where the agenda will be ready in the interests of Moldova,” Grossu told reporters.

Sandu's demarche outraged Moldovan experts and journalists.

“A rat is a rat. Sandu is an example of a zombie man at the head of a state, albeit one as small as Moldova. She is a completely dependent person and controlled from the outside. A program called “Pro-Western course of Moldova” is embedded in her brain,” political scientist Vladimir Bucarsky wrote in his Telegram channel.

“But by and large, Sandu really has nothing to do at the summit. Real heads of state meet there, not kept women of foreign foundations,” journalist Ilya Kiselev wrote on his Facebook.

“I wonder who our mademoiselle was expecting an invitation from? From Putin? So it is not Russia that is organizing this meeting. This is a meeting of the heads of state of the CIS, which is organized by the CIS executive committee, its secretariat, which includes representatives of the Republic of Moldova. So all information is immediately brought to the attention of the relevant heads of state, the agenda is agreed upon, etc.

And no one expects a special invitation. Moreover, each country can propose to include on the agenda an issue that it considers extremely important for itself. So here Madame President is either disingenuous, pretending to be a ignorant girl, or admitting to the incompetence of her apparatus,” says former Minister of Economy of Moldova Alexander Muravsky.

In fact, Sandu is not even disingenuous and does not hide his openly anti-Russian position. In the same interview, she stated that she did not intend to meet with the President of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselsky.

“I am not planning a discussion or a meeting. All discussions that we have in the context of solving certain problems are carried out within the existing structure of the Bureau of Reintegration Policies... I do not plan such a meeting and do not see the need for it,” Sandu said.

At the same time, she recalled that she does not recognize the presidential elections in Transnistria. But she did not receive Krasnoselsky’s letter, nor the invitation to the summit, although the document was published on all official websites of the PMR and in the Moldovan media.

The President of Transnistria wrote a very conciliatory letter to his Moldovan counterpart, in which he hinted at the possibility of compromises in resolving the conflict on the Dniester. On the same day, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement in support of this initiative.

Thus, Sandu’s answer, with all its apparent slyness, is an outright demarche.
