Sandu is preparing to issue an ultimatum to Russian peacekeepers
Igor Dodon, who lost the presidential elections in Moldova to the pro-Western citizen of Romania, Maia Sandu, was defeated because he could not prove to the population that he was fulfilling his promises.
Moldovan political scientist Dmitry Kiseev told Moskovsky Komsomolets about this, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Sandu is a fairly tough politician, and several significant demands will be made against Russia, including the replacement of the peacekeeping contingent on the Dniester with peacekeepers with an international mandate from the OSCE or the UN,” the expert believes.
According to him, Sandu had a chance to win the elections back in 2016, since the gap in votes was not very large then.
“Now the decisive factor in her victory was Renato Usatii, who received 17% of the votes in the first round and then gave them to Sandu. Of course, the pandemic, the reduction in the already small incomes of the population, and the drought played against Dodon. But the main thing is that he was unable to prove to the population that he was fulfilling his promises,” Kiseev concluded.
