The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, intends to deprive the Moldovan citizenship of those residents of Transnistria who will take part in the Northern Military District of the Russian army in Ukraine.

She stated this today at a briefing regarding the meeting of the Security Council of Moldova, which took place two days ago, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“There is a risk of mobilization of citizens of the Republic of Moldova in the eastern regions of the country. In order to prevent this, we are analyzing the possibility of revoking the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova from those who have citizenship of the Russian Federation and who will fight on the side of the aggressor,” Sandu said.

At the same time, according to her, the possibility of toughening punishment for those who only have Moldovan citizenship is being considered.

“Anyone who, by their actions, tries to destabilize the situation in the country, calls for hatred, inter-ethnic tension, war, revanchist actions - will answer before the law. I recommended that government institutions adopt and apply tougher sanctions against those who justify and promote war, and those who invite aggressors to Moldova. We need tougher sanctions for high treason and propaganda of separatism,” Sandu warned.

Also, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry will take measures to support Moldovan citizens who want to return home from the Russian Federation. Sandu fears that otherwise they will be mobilized into the Russian army.

“I asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to begin bilateral consultations with the Russian Federation to exclude cases of conscription of Moldovan citizens located in Russia as part of the ongoing mobilization. The ministry and other government agencies will provide support to Moldovan citizens who intend to return to Moldova from Russia,” Sandu said.

In addition, the Moldovan Security Council is preparing for a possible flow of refugees and nuclear war, although it considers the latter unlikely.

“This is funny. Maia Sandu reported that the option of revoking Moldovan citizenship from persons with dual citizenship (we are talking only about the second Russian) in the event of their participation in hostilities in Ukraine on the side of the Russian armed forces is being considered.
What if these are citizens of Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Israel and so on? Hatred, of course, is destructive for the thought process,” Moldovan TV journalist Elena Levitskaya-Pakhomova commented on the briefing on her TG channel.

338 residents of Transnistria (more than two-thirds of the PMR population) have Moldovan passports.
