Sandu intends to discuss with Putin the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from Transnistria
The main thing for Moldova’s foreign policy is building relations with the European Union.
The country's President Maia Sandu stated this in an interview with Kommersant, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For us, relations with the EU are fundamental: the main assistance in all areas comes from the EU. But our foreign economic policy will be active and will be based on our interests,” Sandu said.
In addition, she emphasized the importance of building relations with Moldova’s two neighbors: Romania and Ukraine. As for her visit to Russia, she will discuss it only after the formation of the government, that is, in the second half of August. At the same time, she did not answer the question whether she would take part in the CIS summit (after Sandu was elected president, Moldova ignores the events of this organization).
“We need to decide which format will be the best for us to discuss all issues with both the Russian President and the government. When the new government is formed, we will start these discussions and find the best format to talk and start working on a bilateral agenda,” Sandu said.
At a meeting with Vladimir Putin, she is going to discuss the removal of ammunition and the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria, which she wants to reintegrate into Moldova.
