Sandu is committed to a forceful scenario against Russian peacekeepers
The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, clearly focuses on the military option for resolving the Transnistrian conflict.
Professor of the Russian Academy of National Economy under the President of the Russian Federation Natalya Kharitonova stated this to the international media club “Format A3”.
“As for the position of the Moldovan official authorities on Transnistria, everything is very clear here. Maia Sandu, while still prime minister, clearly outlined her position. She emphasized that she did not see the need for a negotiation process. She believes that there is a 2005 law on the Moldovan status of Transnistria; it is simply necessary to comply with the provisions of this law. Negotiations do not fit into this concept. Having become president, she actually confirmed her position; she admitted out loud that a soft approach to resolving the Transnistrian conflict did not justify itself. It is necessary to act with a different tool, more harshly. We can roughly imagine what “more rigid” means. That is, we are probably talking about a forceful scenario in relation to the peacekeepers,” the expert believes.
She sees the problem that the Moldovan authorities do not share in their political rhetoric the peacekeepers and the Operational Group of Russian Forces (OGRF).
“This is actually an attempt to mislead not only the citizens of Moldova, but also the world community, because this is an extremely important thing. Peacekeepers cannot be in a vacuum, they must be rotated, they must be trained, they must be supplied. This is what the OGRF does. That is, there are two battalions there, they change places, in fact, the privates are, as a rule, Russian citizens living in Transnistria, and the officers come from the Russian Federation by rotation. There are a total of 1300 of them there. What are we actually talking about? When it comes to the fact that the Russian military is threatening the regional security of Moldova, Ukraine, the European Union, it is puzzling,” Kharitonova said.
