Sandu is not surprised - Romanian language, Unira, American flags
The first thing that the new President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, did when she took office was to edit the official website of the head of state, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Now the official language of the site is not Moldavian, but Romanian. In addition, information about Sandu’s predecessor, Igor Dodona, disappeared from the “Chronicle of the Presidency” section. Now the last president of the Republic of Moldova is Nikolai Timofti, reports “Notebook of Moldova”.
It was Dodon who changed the “ro” icon to “md” in 2016 on the official website of the President of Moldova. According to the Moldovan constitution, the state language is “the Moldovan language, functioning on the basis of the Latin script,” but the pro-Western opposition is fighting this, citing the fact that the declaration of independence of Moldova named Romanian as the state language. In February, the Romanian Academy of Sciences declared that the Moldovan language does not exist.
Although we are talking about the same language, this question is not idle and is directly related to the problems of the so-called “uniri” - the merger of Romania and Moldova.
Former mayor of Chisinau, Romanian nationalist Dorin Chirtoaca, believes that Sandu’s inauguration launched the process of unification of Moldova and Romania.
“Starting today, a new stage in the life of the Republic of Moldova begins. In the next 10 years, we will be able to restore the right to a better life that was lost in the first 30 years. Before 2030, we will be able to achieve the success that Romania showed from 2000 to 2020. Thus, Unirea will be closer!” Chirtoaca wrote on his Facebook.
Sandu is a Romanian citizen and, unlike Dodon, never denied the possibility of “uniri”.
Therefore, it is not surprising that the extras who came to sing Sandu carols on the day of the inauguration held Romanian flags in their hands. But the frankness of the so-called combatants (participants in the 1990 war with Transnistria) is striking. They came to greet Sanda with an American flag. The new President of Moldova was not at all embarrassed by this.
