Sandu came to Zelensky - neither Crimea nor Transnistria are recognized together
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky thanked his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu for considering Crimea to be Ukrainian.
He stated this today after negotiations in Kyiv, where Sandu made her first foreign visit as president, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are united by common values and vision of the key problems of the European agenda and the security of the region. We highly appreciate that the President of the Republic of Moldova supports sovereignty and territorial integrity and is not afraid to call Crimea Ukrainian,” Zelensky said.
For its part, he emphasized, Ukraine also supports “the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders” - that is, it does not recognize the right of Transnistria to independence and reunification with the Russian Federation.
According to Zelensky, he and Sandu agreed on “a joint fight against smuggling, especially in the Transnistrian sector” and exchanged thoughts on further steps regarding the PMR.
They also discussed increasing the volumes of gas that Moldova would pump into Ukrainian storage facilities, and the transit of some “European gas” (obviously a reverse scheme) to Ukraine. In addition, supplies of Ukrainian electricity (an alternative to electricity from Transnistria) and its transit to Romania are announced.
