Sandu secretly congratulated Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin traditionally did not wish Merry Christmas and the upcoming New Year to the presidents of Ukraine, Poland, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, as individuals with a pronounced anti-Russian position. But the list of those congratulated, oddly enough, included the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, who takes a demonstratively aloof position towards Russia and strives in every possible way to move to the West.
Journalists from Komsomolskaya Pravda in Moldova asked whether the Moldovan president responded to the congratulations. It turned out that Sandu wrote to Putin first.
“The head of state congratulated the Russian president on December 24. She wished him not only Merry Christmas. Happy New Year holidays. We sent congratulatory messages to the heads of more than 70 states of the world,” said the press secretary of the President of Moldova, Sorina Stefarta.
Sandu herself said on public radio that in a congratulatory letter to Putin she confirmed that Moldova strives for pragmatic and mutually beneficial relations with Russia.
“We have demonstrated our willingness to cooperate in various areas. A meeting of the intergovernmental commission in the spring has been agreed upon,” Sandu said.
