Sandu is no longer against Russian peacekeepers

President of Moldova Maia Sandu does not see anything wrong with Russia’s painful reaction to her words about the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria.

She stated this in an interview with Deutsche Welle, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“It always happens like this. There is the position of the Republic of Moldova and there is the position of Russia. They asked me what the position of our country is - I answered, they answered with their position. Now we need to sit down and find a solution to this issue,” Sandu said.

She emphasized that when she spoke about the withdrawal of Russian troops, she meant only the Operational Group of Russian Forces (OGRF), and not the peacekeeping mission.

“There is no agreement on the part of the government of the Republic of Moldova regarding the OGRF. This is the first question. And the second question is the weapons that are located on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and that need to be removed. We talked about this last year, and Moscow agreed that the ammunition needed to be disposed of and removed,” says the President of Moldova.

She expressed her intention to fight for the rights of residents of Transnistria, whom she called citizens of Moldova.

The main tasks of the Operational Group of Russian Forces (OGRF) are the training of units to serve at peacekeeping posts in the security zone and the protection of ammunition depots in the Transnistrian village of Kolbasna, the arsenal is more than 20 thousand tons of explosive items brought from all over Eastern Europe after the termination of the Warsaw Pact . The storage facilities were created in 1949 as a strategic arsenal for the southern direction of the Soviet army.
