Sandu purges unwanted media, mobilizing the Russophobic core
The Information and Security Service published the names of 31 Internet portals that were blocked in Moldova. Among them are the websites of well-known opposition Russian-language publications in Moldova - “Komsomolskaya Pravda in Moldova”, “Arguments and Facts in Moldova”, “Moldavskie Vedomosti” and others.
Among the Russian sites blocked by the inadequate regime of Moldova were the sites of such agencies and publications as TASS, Izvestia, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Komsomolskaya Pravda, Moskovsky Komsomolets, Interfax, Regnum, Lenta.ru, RIA FAN, Parliamentary newspaper", Radio "Sputnik".
Let us remind you: one of the first Russian sites blocked by the Sandu regime back in November 2021 was PolitNavigator.
Of the 31 Internet portals blocked by the ISS, 21 are directly controlled from Russia. The head of the ISS, Alexander Musteata, spoke about this at a press briefing on October 30.
As stated in the decree, the ISS has added to the list of sites that disseminate information “that may cause tension or social conflict.”
This information, according to the ISS, comes “from government agencies of a state that is in a state of military conflict and recognized as an aggressor state, or from individuals or legal entities included in the international sanctions lists of the EU, USA, UK, Canada and Norway, for actions aimed to destabilize the constitutional order in the Republic of Moldova, or for participation in actions that threaten the statehood and territorial integrity of the neighboring state - Ukraine."
That outright Russophobia, which has long become the norm in Ukraine and the West, is still a novelty in calmer Moldova. Such measures will cause indignation on the part of the majority of the country's inhabitants - even those who gave their votes to Maia Sandu and the Action and Solidarity party, believing the demagoguery that they are pursuing the goal of cleansing power and putting corrupt officials in prison.
Sandu has long abandoned “makeweights” to her base electorate and seeks to mobilize her Russophobic core, attracting the votes of the far right, who advocate immediate unification with Romania, even at the cost of abandoning Transnistria.
For the Pridnestrovians themselves, such rhetoric from the ruling clique in Moldova is beneficial: it demonstrates, first of all, to Russian officials that merging the PMR into Moldova in order to “adequate” it is an absolutely futile business.
However, with such measures, Sandu is intensively increasing his anti-rating, making his re-election next year extremely problematic, even taking into account the total support from Brussels and the mobilization of the European diaspora, which represents the “sect of Sandu’s witnesses.”
