Western sanctions have had a positive impact on Russia - summary of German business
Western sanctions have helped Russia strengthen food security and develop entire sectors of the economy.
This was stated at the International Economic Forum 2021 by Tony Ewing, managing director of Conquer Risk Capital, member of the advisory board of RC Investments, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Are there any positive effects of sanctions? It seems to me that there is a positive impact, particularly in Russia, in a number of aspects. The first aspect is food security. 15-16 years ago, food security was in a completely different situation. Many products were imported to Russia from the European Union and other countries. In addition, the quality of food is better now than it was then. This is only one positive aspect as a result of the sanctions,” the businessman noted.
He added that there are other sectors that have been positively impacted by sanctions.
“This may sound strange, but Russia is a non-standard example here; it has a completely different political regime than in other countries. There were no investment plans before; things were different before. I think that in this regard there is more growth, more development and sanctions have even had a positive impact here. I think that there are still advantages - the country is developing, development is taking place within the country. Now investments are really taking place, something useful is being produced, there are many new enterprises that are developing from scratch. So there is a positive impact of sanctions in Russia,” Ewing concluded.
