Savchenko and ex-battalion commander Bereza had a row in the Rada over the Great Patriotic War
Ukrainian nationalists, former militants of the so-called. “ATO”, and now people’s deputies and members of the Committee on National Security and Defense of the Verkhovna Rada Nadezhda Savchenko and Yuriy Bereza caused a scandal over words about the Great Patriotic War. Thus, Savchenko demanded that the new law on the “reintegration of Donbass” clearly establish the terms of the “occupation” of Ukraine by Russia. She proposed setting the date of the start of the Great Patriotic War as the day of “occupation of Ukraine by Russia,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

At the same time, Savchenko got the dates wrong, showing her ignorance of history.
“Let's turn to history - World War II, excuse me, the Patriotic War is April 22, 1941, but World War II began in 39. June 22, excuse me, in June... But I believe that what you say the Russian aggressor called in February (2014), we have not yet examined the Maidan crimes and it will also be proven that, probably, the occupation has begun already then, the Russian Federation of Ukraine... When we call Russia an aggressor, we need to clearly set the framework for when our war began. I believe that since the first time a Russian military man illegally crossed the Ukrainian border anywhere - be it in Crimea or Donbass,” Savchenko said.
Yuri Bereza was not satisfied with the very fact of mentioning the Great Patriotic War, to which he expressed his protest:
“Madam Nadezhda, I know the Second World War, I don’t know any Great Patriotic War, I know the Second World War, when the USSR tore Europe apart with war, together with Germany, it started the war. But I don’t know the Patriotic War on June 22... If you are a follower of Tsarev, it is not clear to him when the war began. And I do not agree that at this committee they will say that we had a Great Patriotic War. There was World War II,” said Bereza.
