Savchenko: Poroshenko deserves a tribunal. We can't let him escape
Criminal prosecution of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his retinue is possible, but this may not be an easy task for the new government.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Nadezhda Savchenko, recently released from prison, stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Can it? Maybe. Will he answer? We'll see. The fact is that, indeed, a lot of evidence and materials have been collected against Poroshenko for his crimes, which testify to this. You can't hide everything. Money always leaves a mark. Both he and his entourage, in principle, had already worked for the tribunal, indeed, for the tribunal, because it was wartime,” she noted, answering the question of whether Poroshenko would bear criminal responsibility for his actions.
“Will it be implemented so quickly? If we begin to implement fairness and justice to Poroshenko and his team before the elections, they may start shouting about political persecution. If you give them the opportunity to go to the polls, they will come, try to get in, buy, break any law, falsify, but get into politics in order to protect themselves with immunity.
And we will again have the same protracted situation as with the “predecessors” who were running around, chasing each other, in the end, no one was punished, and any sentences were passed in absentia. I believe that Poroshenko cannot be allowed to escape, the system cannot be allowed to pass sentences in absentia, he must answer realistically, because the crimes are very real and very bloody,” added Savchenko.
