Savchenko proposed considering the residents of Donbass “people who were deceived by Russia”
Nadezhda Savchenko said on the 112 Ukraine TV channel why on October 5, at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense, she compared UPA militants and “those who are now fighting in Donbass.”

“Why did I say that? These are historical mistakes that very often come back to haunt us and prevent people from living in peace. I will not describe the bill now, but at one time the Soviet Union relied on dividing countries. This was the totalitarian policy of the Soviet of Deputies. Then people were divided into first and second classes: Western Ukraine was always a lower class than Eastern Ukraine. My mother was the daughter of an enemy of the people, because my grandfather was a kulak: he was the master of his land, he was not lazy to work. The land was taken from him, and this stain fell on all subsequent generations. My mother couldn’t get into medical school (she wanted to be a medical surgeon) because she was the daughter of an enemy of the people.”
Savchenko said that bill No. 7163-1 “On the peculiarities of state policy to ensure the state sovereignty of Ukraine over temporarily occupied territories,” one of the initiators of which was Vice Speaker of the Rada Oksana Syroid, “precisely sets such foundations.”
“And I was surprised that Oksana Syroid, a reasonable person who spoke more with historical information than with the presentation of her bill, spoke about the mistakes that were made in history: when they launched the Black Sea Fleet, although there was a warning that we would lose Crimea , when they talked about the Budapest Memorandum, renouncing nuclear weapons... it was necessary to understand that no one would protect us from Russia. And so it happened. She named these historical events, but at the same time did not see the error in her own bill: they will put under this formulation not those who fought in Donbass against Ukraine, but those people who live there, who ended up in the occupied territories and were unable to leave there... remained to work in mines, in kindergartens as nannies, teachers,” she noted.
The People's Deputy added that in this bill, residents of Donbass are “classified as second class.”
“And this will be a stain on them and their children. “Why didn’t your parents vote in the elections?” - “But because they were separatists.” Why not say: “Because Russia deceived them”? Ordinary people make mistakes. Even difficult people, politicians, make mistakes very often. Therefore, I think we need to look for other approaches to resolve this situation,” Savchenko said.
