Savchenko is going on a campaign tour to the DPR
People's Deputy and leader of the party named after her, Nadezhda Savchenko, gathered in the DPR-controlled city of Gorlovka to campaign ahead of the parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
She spoke about this in an interview with Radio Liberty, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Savchenko explained her intentions by saying that Gorlovka is formally included in her constituency, and among local residents there will be those willing to take part in the Ukrainian elections.
“I believe that the occupied territories are, after all, Ukraine. Sooner or later these borders will fall into place between Russia and Ukraine. Later, politicians will develop trade, economic or some kind of partnership and neighborly relations with Russia, but now we need to start at least here in Ukraine. I have a very large district, it’s all there – Gorlovka. I won’t be campaigning so much, there are people who will come here, re-register, they are conscientious. There are people who will not come because they will be afraid that something threatens them. At the very least, we must start talking to each other,” the people’s deputy said.
At the same time, Savchenko assured that she is not afraid of possible arrest on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
“What is waiting for me there? I don’t know, I was captured, I was in prison, I was in two wars, I don’t know what awaits me there, but what’s the difference...
Those who come with weapons are taken prisoner. I can understand why I was captured in Lugansk. Because it was a war, it was a battle. When you go without a weapon, at most you can become a hostage, this is a completely different status.
And then, who needs it? I don’t think that side needs it, I don’t think even Russia needs it, and I hope that my competitors don’t need it, it won’t save them, it will only add to my needs,” says the former pilot.
