She stated this in an interview with the Russian Novaya Gazeta.
“How this bullshit got me! I said that if necessary, I’m ready. But that doesn't mean I want to. I said that many of our captains know better than generals how the Ministry of Defense should work. And the further in rank, the less conscience. I'm not afraid of work, but that doesn't mean I'm already running to take up positions. They were running me for president, and now I’ve been demoted to minister of defense! Why is it so weak? Tell me, can you be an editor?” – Savchenko asked journalist Pavel Kanygin.
He replied that he didn't really want to. The people's deputy clarified whether he feels strong enough to take this position. A Novaya Gazeta correspondent said that it was “possible.”
“Well, now I will say that you are aiming for the position of editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta! You understand, I don’t want to be either a minister or president. I don't want to, but I can. And if the people say, then I, like a soldier who must carry out an order, will go, and I have the strength,” Savchenko said.
Kanygin emphasized that it is easier to deal with problems if you are the president.
“When you become an editor, you will realize that it is not easier. Each level of power imposes responsibility. But I have only one wish – for things to get better in Ukraine. If I can do this without being prime minister or president, then even better,” the people’s deputy noted.
