Sberbank “sent” Russian analyst due to retirement age
One of the largest Russian banks, Sberbank, refused to provide services to the famous oil and gas analyst and orientalist Mikhail Krutikhin because of his age. He himself said this in a commentary Reedus, reports the correspondent of PolitNavigator.
According to Krutikhin, he needed a credit card for trips abroad. However, despite the fact that he had a debit card issued by the same bank, the 71-year-old expert was refused, citing the fact that the financial institution issues “credit cards” only to persons under 65 years of age.
“Of course, this is age discrimination. In many foreign banks, older people can easily get a credit card. Of course, there are certain restrictions - they may, for example, not be given a loan to buy a house. And who will pay if the loan is issued for 30 years? But they can receive regular cards for purchases without problems,” Krutikhin said.
Similar rules, as journalists found out, exist in almost all major banks in the country. At Sberbank, Krutikhin was offered to use the Active Age program instead of issuing a credit card.
Earlier, PolitNavigator wrote that Sberbank refused to open its branches in Crimea for fear of sanctions. At the same time, the bank successfully operates its Mriya sanatorium, which was recognized as the best resort complex in the world last year.
