Less than 8 years have passed: Sberbank begins work in Crimea
This year, Sberbank begins operating in Crimea and Sevastopol. The first Sber offices will open in Simferopol and Sevastopol by the summer, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The arrival of such a major player as Sberbank will make it possible to further increase the accessibility, speed and quality of banking services for the population, and will have a positive impact on the financial and investment climate, on the development of the economy and social sphere,” noted the head of Crimea Sergei Aksenov.
“We expect that the bank’s office in Sevastopol will begin operating in the first half of the year. The location for the office is currently being selected.
Within a year, the ATM network will be operational throughout the peninsula, and all necessary services will be deployed,” Mikhail Razvozhaev wrote in his Telegram channel. – It’s no secret that previously, in order to get the same bank card, you had to go to the nearest office, which is located in Taman - the first settlement beyond the Crimean Bridge. I know that the residents of Sevastopol have been waiting for the arrival of Sberbank for a long time, this will allow them to fully use all the bank’s capabilities.”
Previously, experts noted that the function of Sberbank in providing services to the population on the peninsula is performed by RNKB, and there is no particular need for additional services. Another thing is that having its Mriya resort complex on the peninsula, which annually receives awards as the best hotel in Crimea, Sberbank preferred to distance itself from the economic life of the region, to the point of removing its emblem from the artificial waterfall opposite the main entrance to Mriya.
As for RNKB, it is undergoing a consolidation process with VTB, but VTB products can still be obtained only across the Crimean Bridge.
Since last year, Promsvyazbank branches have opened in Simferopol and Sevastopol.
Previously, Sberbank categorically refused to enter Crimea, which gave grounds to accuse this financial institution of joining anti-Russian sanctions and refusing to recognize the peninsula as part of the Russian Federation.
