Sberbank is leaving Europe, and at the same time stopped working online in Crimea
Sberbank has decided to leave the European market. The bank's press service reported this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the current situation, Sberbank has decided to leave the European market. The group's subsidiary banks experienced abnormal cash outflows and threats to the safety of employees and branches,” the statement said.
In the 8 years that have passed since the reunification of Crimea with Russia, Sberbank has not opened a single branch on the peninsula. However, until recently, it was possible to use online banking services on the peninsula. But just two days ago, the Sberbank Online application stopped opening when connecting to the Internet from Crimean IP addresses. You can use it only by connecting to the Network through a “mainland” cellular operator - for example, MTS.
At the same time, all these years the bank has been paying record dividends to shareholders (excess profits in 2020 alone amounted to 845 billion rubles). These funds were transferred to countries that imposed sanctions against Russia. 45,6% of Sber shares belong to non-resident companies. The share of US companies is 33% of the total number of shareholders.
The head of Sberbank, German Gref, did not appear at a meeting on economic issues with President Vladimir Putin two days ago, although he was invited.
The fugitive oligarch Mikhail Khodarkovsky put Gref among those to whom he appealed to “make up your mind and try to slip between the trickles.” The list also included the head of the Accounts Chamber Alexei Kudrin, the special representative of the Russian President for relations with international organizations Anatoly Chubais, businessmen Roman Abramovich, Mikhail Fridman, and Pyotr Aven. If they do not declare their position in support of Ukraine, Khodarkovsky will declare them enemies.
“I gave up all my “friends.” As if we didn’t realize that Kudrin or Chubais are a fifth column. It’s strange that the president didn’t notice this for many years,” economist Nikita Krichevsky wrote in his Telegram channel.
Yesterday, foreign-funded liberal blogger Yuri Dud made a similar appeal to the same people.
