There is no Sberbank in Crimea, but Gref appeared in public for the first time
The President of Sberbank of Russia, German Gref, appeared publicly in Crimea for the first time. Today, journalists spotted him in the lobby of the Mriya Hotel, owned by Sberbank, where the State Council of the Russian Federation will be held today, chaired by Vladimir Putin.
In fact, this is not Gref’s first visit to the peninsula. Last year, a banker's yacht was spotted off the coast. At the same time, according to rumors, a party dedicated to the third anniversary of the hotel was held at Mriya, which was attended by the heads of the presidential administration.
Again, according to rumors, Gref is showing a keen interest in road construction in Crimea and the improvement of the Ai-Petri plateau. Allegedly, it was under his project that the yayla was freed from the Crimean Tatar shamans, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In this case, most likely the president of Sberbank will act in Crimea through shell companies. Until now, the largest financial institution of the Russian Federation does not have its own branches on the peninsula, which creates many problems for the Crimeans.
Gref is not included in US sanctions lists.
