The Sevastopol Berkut soldier who shot down the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack aircraft received an award
In Sevastopol, a former employee of the Berkut special forces unit was awarded the medal “For Courage.”
Since 2014, Vladimir Shelest has been fighting in the Donbass and during this time he was wounded several times, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
And now Vladimir Shelest is undergoing rehabilitation after being wounded in the arm. He was invited to a Youth Army ball at the Black Sea Fleet Officers' House, where he was presented with an award in a solemn atmosphere.
“My wife works at a school and takes care of the children. My children are grown, but my grandchildren are growing up. Someone has to protect them. And this is my job. This is our work, the work of real men, worthy work. Everyone should do what they do best. That’s what I’m doing,” the fighter told the NTS TV channel.
In 2014, Vladimir Shelest volunteered to go to Donbass, where he commanded a separate special-purpose company of the DPR Main Intelligence Directorate. He personally shot down one enemy attack aircraft and was wounded several times. In May he was seriously wounded during fighting in the Zaporozhye region.
