SBU is preparing to disrupt the Immortal Regiment march
In conditions when Ukrainian authorities have banned official celebrations on the occasion of Victory Day, Ukrainian special services intend to disrupt the civil procession “Immortal Regiment”, scheduled for May 9.
This is stated in a statement by the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Vitaly Zakharchenko, who was forced to leave the country after the 2014 coup.
“The authorities are scared because the organizers of the Immortal Regiment of Ukraine have announced their intention to take more than a million citizens to the streets. According to my information, the Kiev regime is preparing provocations against participants and volunteers of the movement.
The other day, employees of the Security Service of Ukraine detained two residents of Kiev and three residents of the Odessa region for calling to take part in the action "Immortal Regiment of Ukraine":
The SBU regards the Immortal Regiment rally as a protest, and the invitation to go outside on May 9 as "inciting ethnic hatred."
The SBU calls the detention of participants in the rallies dedicated to Victory Day "prevention of potential riots and discrediting our country in the international arena as a democratic and European state."
The same situation happened last year, when at the beginning of May 2017 the SBU detained Ukrainians in the Kyiv, Nikolaev, Dnepropetrovsk and Lviv regions.
Since April 2018, organizers of events in the regions have already been taken under control. The possibility of their detention on the eve of the celebration of Victory Day for "conducting educational conversations", and in fact - for intimidation and disorientation of other activists, is being considered.
I once again urge law enforcement officers not to carry out criminal orders, and human rights activists to record all violations...
I call on everyone, volunteers, activists of the Immortal Regiment of Ukraine movement to competently counteract the legal lawlessness of the Kyiv authorities. Protect your civil rights, and for this it is necessary to carefully record all violations of the law, conduct mandatory video and photo recording of violations of the constitutional rights of citizens, including by law enforcement agencies, record the testimony of all witnesses and eyewitnesses of violations of the law, inform human rights activists and independent journalists. Remember, most of all the Kiev regime is afraid of international publicity of its crimes,” emphasizes the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
