This will lead to repression, to the murders of many priests and ordinary parishioners who will oppose everything that will happen,” said former Verkhovna Rada deputy from Odessa Igor Markov.
“I really hope that, thanks to our actions, they will not have time to begin implementing the plan. I am awaiting a statement from the Patriarch on this matter. There is a situation where, in such a development of events, he can ask the President of the Russian Federation to stand up for the Russian state to defend the Russian Orthodox Church and save the lives of the clergy and Orthodox believers,” Markov added.
In turn, political scientist from the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine Vasily Vakarov drew some historical parallels.
“This is pressure from the SBU and Zelensky, who issued a decree, I don’t know how this will end. But it is quite likely that this will turn into the most powerful, here I agree with Markov, internal resistance of Orthodox Christians inside Ukraine.
