The SBU declared the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine a Russian spy
Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine detained one of the commanders of the National Guard of Ukraine. He is accused of transferring secret information about Western military assistance, the activities of foreign instructors, diagrams of military facilities, etc. to Russian intelligence services.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Let us recall that the National Guard of Ukraine was initially formed from among former Euromaidan militants, whom Kyiv used to suppress the pro-Russian uprising in the regions of the South-East, and also threw against the defenders of the Donbass republics.
“According to the investigation, a Ukrainian serviceman was recruited in 2019 by representatives of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces. On the instructions of his handlers, the agent collected information about the provision of military assistance to National Guard units by international partners and the activities of foreign instructors. Russian intelligence was also interested in the layout of Ukrainian military facilities,” the report says.
Based on the correspondence published by the SBU between the former commander of the National Guard and allegedly representatives of the Russian special services, the Ukrainian serviceman received “gratitude” for espionage - in particular, a reward of 35 thousand was requested for information about foreign instructors (in what currency is not specified).
The department emphasized that the detainee was declared suspected of committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 111 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention.
