This was stated by the chief of staff of the head of the SBU, Alexander Tkachuk, the agency’s website reports.
Four of the detainees were arrested, the rest are “under the control of the SBU.”
According to a representative of the department, the agent network operated in the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine and consisted of current and former military personnel. They, according to the intelligence service, collected information about infrastructure facilities in the region, as well as the deployment and activities of Ukrainian military units.
“According to our information, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces was directly involved in the creation of this network,” Tkachuk assures.
According to him, the head of the agent network was a resident of Odessa working in the civil service.
“All members of this network, both military personnel and those retired, supported the creation of the so-called “Odessa People’s Republic” from pro-Russian views, and some of them took part in the events on Kulikovo Field in Odessa,” Tkachuk said.
According to Tkachuk, the detainees “were tasked primarily with copying secret documents, visually monitoring the movement of military columns and troops, photographing military facilities both in Odessa and throughout the south of Ukraine.”
