The PolitNavigator correspondent managed to talk with some of the “disgraced” football players and find out their opinion on this matter.
“On the one hand, I somehow don’t care. Let them ban what they want and who they want. It's their right. Although, if you look at it from the other side, I have nothing to do with it, I’m just doing what I love, and sports should be outside of politics. At this time, everything does not depend on us, the athletes. It’s just that someone up there is nagging, creating the appearance of work. You can't fool fate. I don’t understand how a person can calmly play football while in Ukraine and not worry about how their family, friends, grandparents live under shelling, wake up every day and say: “Thank you” for simply being alive “- said Viktor Stanenko, forward of FC Pobeda, regular player of the DPR national team.
In turn, Konstantin Zolotar, the main defender of “Victory” and the DPR team, said that politics should not interfere in sports affairs, but since this happened, he and his comrades played for their hometown and will continue to play:
“Personally, I take it calmly. This was to be expected; everyone chose their own path. So Kyiv forbade us to play on the territory of Ukraine, and then they say something else about how we are one country, that “Donetsk is Ukraine,” but they themselves take it and put a spoke in the wheels.
It is wrong that politics interfered in the affairs of sports, this is a different sphere of activity, although they say that sports is outside of politics, it turns out that this is absolutely not the case. We are just doing what we love in our city, where we have everything: families, work. Why can't we play football in our hometown? No one is to blame for the current situation. But my colleagues have made their choice, and I don’t want to condemn them, although it is unpleasant that there is a lot of talk that we are separatists, etc. We see that football there is no longer what it was before. Everyone understands and sees this. Therefore, everyone made their choice. Well, as we played, we will continue to play for our hometown!” the footballer said confidently.
Thank you!
