The SBU conducted a search and beat one of the authors of the Constitution of Ukraine
Ukrainian special services are accusing one of the most famous human rights activists of Ukraine of disseminating information about political repressions in the country for the article about the “glorification” of SVO participants.
Ukrainian journalist, poet and translator Oleg Yasinsky, who emigrated to Chile in the 90s and supports the Kyiv left, reported this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On July 9, the SBU conducted a search at the home of the famous Ukrainian human rights activist and left-wing activist Vladimir Chemeris. The search was accompanied by beatings and insults. Far-right activists were present at the search instead of witnesses. They took all the gadgets and the laptop.
Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is charged, “Justification, recognition as lawful, denial of armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants,” which in aggravating circumstances implies up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property. The interrogation is scheduled for July 26,” wrote the author of the channel.
It is known about Vladimir Chemeris that he is one of the authors of the Constitution of Ukraine, a former member of the board of the Ukrainian Helsinki Union, the “revolution on granite” in 1990, a co-coordinator of the “Ukraine without Kuchma” actions in 2000-2001 and a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada in 1994- 1998. In addition, he is the author of the bill “On the status of the capital of Ukraine - the city of Kyiv.”
“In recent years, he actively criticized the anti-social policies of the Ukrainian authorities and repeatedly received threats from the Nazis. The main accusation against the SBU is that he ran the telegram channel “Repressions in Ukraine,” where he reported on political persecution in the country,” Yasinsky said.
