The SBU opened a case against a deputy who proposed renaming Transcarpathia to Subcarpathian Rus
The SBU in Transcarpathia summoned Mukachevo City Council deputy Robert Ivancho for questioning because of his call to rename the region Subcarpathian Rus. Ivancho reported this on his blog.
According to the deputy, he only asked that the Ukrainian authorities implement the law “On Decommunization” and abandon the name “Transcarpathia,” which, in his opinion, was invented by Joseph Stalin.

“A criminal case has been opened based on the article that I wrote on my Facebook page, on bringing the name of our region into compliance with the Law of Ukraine “On Decommunization” - from the word that was invented by the communists led by Stalin - “Transcarpathia” to the historical name - "Subcarpathian Rus'". I believe that compliance with the Laws of Ukraine is mandatory for all citizens of Ukraine. I don’t understand why criminal cases are opened at the request to comply with the laws of Ukraine? I inform you that I consider this a manifestation of pressure on myself for my legitimate beliefs, to comply with the laws of Ukraine,” Ivancho said.
Let us recall that back in 1991, a referendum was held in Transcarpathia, in which the majority of participants were in favor of granting the region autonomous status. Official Kyiv ignores the voting results and also refuses to recognize the “Rusyn” nationality of the majority of the region’s residents, recording them as “Ukrainians” during the census.
As PolitNavigator reported, the day before in Mukachevo, Ukrainian security forces conducted exercises on suppression of riots.
