“As part of the criminal proceedings initiated, intelligence service operatives documented that two neo-Nazis planned to commit a terrorist attack with the aim of destabilizing the socio-political situation in Ukraine and overthrowing the constitutional order. SBU investigators reasonably suspect representatives of the Russian special services of coordinating the activities of the structure.

As a result of a special operation, on the night of June 25-26, Ukrainian Security Service officers detained two members of a neo-Nazi organization in the center of Odessa during an attempt to set fire to a religious Islamic building using two Molotov cocktails. The SBU established that one of the detainees arrived in Ukraine after a long stay in the Russian Federation,” the report says.

The department emphasized that during the investigative actions, Ukrainian law enforcement officers received all the necessary evidence of planning a terrorist act - arson equipment, mobile terminals and notebooks with evidence.

Now the defendants in the case have been detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. They were informed of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation continues.

The SBU added that the detained nationalists are suspected of working for Russia and collaborating with representatives of the Russian intelligence services.

Ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko commented on the incident. He pointed out the illogicality of the actions of the “Russian special services”, which for some reason chose Odessa for the action, and not the same Kherson, where there are many Mejlis members who fled from Crimea. The ex-deputy also expressed confidence that the detention was a provocation by the SBU for the sake of inciting hatred towards Russia.

“Apparently, this is the real delirium of crazy people. If I were the special services, the Russians, I would rather do this in Kherson, not in Odessa. Such a suspicion, as if the special services were behind this, and it was necessary to set fire to the mosque, and they caught it so quickly! But the most paradoxical thing is that they immediately found the culprit. That is, Russia and the special services are behind this - that is, real nonsense.

With such actions they continue to incite hatred against Russia, and, unfortunately, this has an effect on Ukrainian society. And with this incident they also want to set fire to Muslims - you see how bad the Russians are, they hired the Nazis to set fire to the mosque! But I can tell Ukrainians one thing: don’t believe it, this was all organized by the current government, including the SBU. They continue to play the so-called war game, only they will finish the game,” Zhuravko told PolitNavigator.

It is worth noting that a number of Russian and Belarusian neo-Nazis found shelter in Ukraine, who were threatened with criminal prosecution in their homeland. Many of them became participants in the punitive operation against Donbass and received Ukrainian citizenship.
