A group of “guild workers” who were engaged in buying and processing illegally mined amber for further resale and transportation to the Middle East were exposed in the Zhytomyr region by employees of the Security Service of Ukraine together with the police.

The businessmen - four residents of the Korostensky and Luginsky districts - bought raw amber from illegal diggers in the Zhitomir and Rivne regions. The cutting of the “sun stone” took place in the garage of one of the attackers, where they set up an underground workshop.
“During 10 authorized searches from buyers and participants in the amber business, law enforcement officers seized almost 100 kg of unprocessed raw amber of a large fraction, about 7 kg of processed amber, special equipment: four machines for cutting stones, devices for receiving and purchasing amber, and also rough notes of the dealers,” the SBU added.
According to preliminary conclusions of experts, the estimated cost of the seized “sun stone” is five million hryvnia at black market prices.
