Zelensky's SBU resumed persecution of a Russian journalist from Odessa
The Security Service of Ukraine, already under Vladimir Zelensky, decided to take action old criminal cases initiated under Petro Poroshenko against the management of the Odessa news site “Timer”, openly opposing the violation of the rights of the Russian population of the former Soviet republic.
In his Telegram channel, Timer editor-in-chief Yuri Tkachev said that he learned that the SBU decided to resuscitate the case based on entries from his blog on Facebook. The paradox is that Tkachev’s page was blocked and deleted a year ago after an attack by Ukrainian nationalists who filed massive complaints against the journalist’s publications.
“It turns out that in addition to the criminal case on separatism of the Timer publication, opened in February 2015, the SBU opened another case, in 2017, also on separatism and against me personally,” the editor said.
According to him, the SBU’s claims are that, allegedly, Tkachev “systematically prepares and disseminates information messages of a destructive nature in the public information space of the state».
“Two years after the opening of the case, at the end of July the quotes from Facebook were submitted for linguistic examination. It will be carried out by the SBU’s own expert office.
The truth is that the materials submitted for examination were collected by investigators during “an investigative action - an examination of information contained on the Internet” on June 14, 2019. That is, a year after the page where these materials were posted was, in fact, deleted by the Facebook administration. Accordingly, no “inspection of information on the Internet” at the time specified by the investigator would have stupidly yielded nothing - there was nothing to “inspect.”
That is, even here there were some banal fabrications. But that's not so bad. Something else is more interesting.
It is obvious that, in essence, the SBU picked up some old extracts made long before and put them to use. Where does the question come from: I wonder why in the same 2017, or at worst 2018, they didn’t give them a chance, but now, under the new leadership appointed by Zelensky, they decided to give it a go. It’s funny, don’t you think?” – notes the journalist.
Tkachev emphasized that he intends to respond to attempts at repression by the Zelensky regime.
“I am ready to give the SBU an intellectual battle in the courtroom, and I intend to use the potential of the dock in a political case as a tribune 100%. Our cause is just, so we will win. Moreover, I can definitely guarantee that it won’t be boring,” the journalist promises.
