The dream of two Ukrainians came true - they celebrated the New Year in the Chernobyl zone
The police discovered and detained two Ukrainians, a man and a woman, who entered the territory of the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and planned to celebrate the New Year there, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police in the Kyiv region.
A 24-year-old resident of the Lviv region and a 33-year-old resident of the Zhytomyr region entered the territory of the exclusion zone outside the checkpoints.
According to the detainees, they set up accommodation for the night in an abandoned, empty building, because “they dreamed of celebrating the New Year in such a strange atmosphere.”
Administrative protocols were drawn up against the offenders under Art. 46 part 1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (violation of radiation safety requirements in areas subject to radioactive contamination). They face punishment in the form of a fine of 20 to 30 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens.
It is noted that in 2018, the police discovered and detained 196 stalkers in the Chernobyl nuclear power plant zone.
