“Our Mishka surrendered the country.” Gorbachev is branded in his native village
Residents of the village of Privolnoye in the Stavropol region, where the first and last president of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev was born, are not very fond of their most famous fellow countryman.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, writes Komsomolskaya Pravda, which visited the homeland of Gorbachev, who turns 90 today.
“Wow, how proud we were at first: our Mishka is no match for all these elders of the Politburo! Perestroika, glasnost, acceleration! And what did he throw away…”, the publication reports conversations of people near a local store.
"Adventurer! - the man who came up keeps the conversation going. – He himself didn’t seem to understand what he wanted. And we believed everything they said on TV. Our Mishka surrendered the country. Most of all, we, the Ukrainians, don’t respect him. Many have relatives in Ukraine. So my mother groaned: what is it like to be abroad now?
However, there are those who defend Gorbachev.
“It wasn’t with him that the collapse happened! - says one man. - Mikhail Sergeevich is not to blame - it was under Yeltsin that everything went to hell. Did Gorbachev ruin the collective farm too?”
Thank you!
