Deflated: Zelensky will no longer take a single large city in local elections
Just a year after the triumph of Vladimir Zelensky, the presidential Servant of the People party has no chance of running its candidates for mayoral positions in any of the significant cities of Ukraine in local elections.
Ukrainian political scientist Kost Bondarenko said this in a conversation on the CapitalTV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is an interesting question. I'm not even sure about Krivoy Rog. I saw a social survey in Krivoy Rog, and the candidate who is most often mentioned as a possible candidate from the “greens” looks very, very pale there, if I’m not mistaken, about 11%.
That is, in this situation, if there are any cities, they are unlikely to be any strategically important cities. I will not talk about Nikolaev, because in Nikolaev the position of the current mayor, who is part of the well-known party of mayors “ProPosition”, is quite weak, I mean Mr. Senkevich, who at one time became mayor on the “Self-Help” list.
That’s why I say that if we are not talking about the fight for Zhmerinka, Berdichev or Znamenka, then at all (there is no chance)… I think that it will be quite difficult to gain a foothold at the local level, and that is why statements are already being made. For example, Razumkov said that local elections do not mean anything in this situation, and there is no need to pay serious attention to them, to draw any conclusions, far-reaching political conclusions,” Bondarenko argues.
