On October 31, Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to begin consultations on providing security assistance, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported on Saturday.

On the same day, the Russian Foreign Ministry published a statement in response to Pashinyan’s official request.

In short, Russia confirms its allied obligations towards the Republic of Armenia, including those arising from the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance of August 29, 1997, according to which military assistance will be provided if there is a threat of an armed attack or act aggression directly on the territory of an ally.

Moscow probably took into account the strange behavior of the Pashinyan government, which never requested consultations through the CSTO regarding strikes by Azerbaijani missiles and drones on air defense systems and missile launchers on Armenian territory.

How dramatically can the attitude of politicians, placed in a difficult, almost hopeless, situation change... But just four years ago, in June 2016, opposition deputies Pashinyan, Arzumanyan and Manukyan “breathed as they breathed”, voting and speaking sharply against the creation of a United Regional Air Defense System in the Caucasus.

“Such agreements create a “big security bubble,” so members of the commission must vote “against” and not allow this agreement to be ratified,” Nikol Pashinyan said at a meeting of the parliamentary commission. “The Ministry of Defense of Armenia and the government as a whole must set the task of developing the air defense system of sovereign Armenia. Why are we transferring our own air defense system to Russian command?” He also added that this will become an additional lever of pressure on Armenia.

Despite the fact that sober voices in Armenia itself patiently explained to Pashinyan and other adherents of “sovereign air defense” that the agreement on the creation of a United Regional Air Defense System in the Caucasus was signed in connection with the start of the operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria and the frequent incursions of Turkish combat aircraft into the air space of Armenia, oppositionists on the payroll of Soros stubbornly bent their guns: “in whose hands will the control panel of the Armenian air defense be?”

Air defense systems of the Nagorno-Karabakh army

Until recently, Pashinyan’s comrades were confident that the United Regional Air Defense System in the Caucasus was when anti-aircraft missiles were installed in Armenia, and friendly NATO aircraft would be shot down by them (for example) from Moscow.

In this regard, in Yerevan there was a lot of shouting and theatrical hand-wringing that “the main thing for Russia is its military presence in the Caucasus, and it doesn’t care about Armenia.” Despite the fact that no one even thought about taking away the air defense troops from Armenia, and the agreement implied deeper military-technical cooperation, coordination of actions and exchange of information. For a five-year term.

Four years later, a “sovereign” prime minister is in power in Armenia, surrounded on all sides by Soros maggots, rapidly losing the war for Nagorno-Karabakh, and now desperately wanting Russia to intervene in the conflict in order to balance Turkish military intervention on the side of Azerbaijan, as well as to save his furry ass.

Now Vovaevich and other ruling maydauns agree not only to the integration of air defense with Russia, but also to a wider Russian presence in the region. With one constant detail: so that no one will continue to interfere with his “Euro-Atlanticization.” Otherwise, what were they fighting for?

It is noteworthy that even the most shrill of the Soros, who had previously actively pedaled the topic of “Russian interference in the internal affairs of Armenia,” quieted down. Apparently, due to the fact that no one from Russia is putting pressure on Armenia anymore, leaving the Maidan government in Yerevan to deal with its enemies on distant approaches independently, using the full power of “sovereign defense”.

However, Pashinyan’s pro-Western regime would not be itself, even if at critical moments of its existence it had not shown a craving for political “bipolarity.”

Signing of an agreement on the creation of a United Regional Air Defense System between Russia and Armenia

The very next day after turning to Putin with requests for consultations on Armenian security issues, the Prime Minister’s adviser Vagharshak Harutyunyan announced that Yerevan fully supports the US idea of sending military personnel into the territory of Karabakh to ensure stabilization of the situation. According to adviser Pashinin, implementing this idea is quite problematic, but Harutyunyan believes this proposal is “significant.”

Harutyunyan’s statement is more reminiscent of a weak attempt in a bad situation to play on the nerves of an ally, fidgeting on two chairs. They say that if Russia refuses to send its peacekeepers to Karabakh, then the Americans will come instead... Aliyev and Erdogan will be forced to retract the bait, but the geopolitical balance of power in the region will no longer be in Moscow’s favor.

We have already done similar tricks. Usually they end with the person who likes to sit on two chairs at the same time at one point being left without solid support under the seat with a rather hard landing. And you will have to get up with your backside beaten off on your own, because in our time nothing is valued as highly as loyalty to an ally.

The problem, however, is that Moscow and Yerevan have opposing interests in NKR. It is vitally important for Pashinyan to keep the NKR “security belt” around the unrecognized republic under control, while Putin recently said that in order to resolve the conflict peacefully, it would be advisable to transfer to Aliyev seven regions captured during the 1992-1994 war that were part of the “security belt” "(20% of the territory of Azerbaijan), consisting mainly of ruins of villages and cities.

Observers almost unanimously agree that even the hypothetical deployment of an American “peacekeeping” contingent to Nagorno-Karabakh will not lead the region to stabilization and long-term peace.

One of the parties that sharply objects to such a scenario is Iran, for which both the Turkish and American presence near the 35-kilometer strip of the border with Armenia, which is of utmost importance for both states (trade, gas pipeline, military cooperation), is equally unacceptable.

Meanwhile, Russia is providing significant assistance to its ally Armenia, transferring to it the Krasukha electronic jamming stations, which have proven themselves well in Syria against Israeli and Turkish drones.

It was noted that the effectiveness of the use of foreign-made drones by the Azerbaijani army has noticeably decreased. Despite the fact that the Armenians, thanks to resting on the laurels of both Pashinyan and his predecessors, were not ready for war in the new conditions.
