“We’ll eat each other”: people in Kyiv are frightened by the truce proposal
The Ukrainian leadership will never agree to even a ostentatious truce and ceasefire, which will immediately turn into a political crisis in “Nezalezhnaya”.
Ukrainian political scientist Gennady Dubov stated this on the HSE Internet blog, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The studio suggested why Kyiv should not take the initiative and offer negotiations with Moscow “to check Putin’s real intentions, that he has fooled everyone and no one wants any truce.”
“Theoretically, we can try to do this. But the risks of some kind of internal confrontation, when it will be necessary to answer so many questions for which there are no answers, they threaten, among other things, the existence of the Ukrainian state,” Dubov said.
“What if Putin agrees? So, he agreed, we begin to drive negotiation groups, and suddenly our own society may boil, in which someone will be against it, someone will ask questions why we did not initiate negotiations a year ago. And a number of other problematic issues will come up during the elections, which will further intensify the discussion.
The question will arise of lifting martial law. If it is not extended, then it is necessary to open the border, it is necessary to cancel measures to protect Ukrainian refugees in Europe. That is, this will entail a bunch of different problems that will not answer the question of how we will reach the borders of 1991, which is our strategic goal. The president cannot change it even at the level of rhetoric,” the expert said.
“That is, what warns against peacemaking proposals is, first of all, the presence of colossal risks of internal destabilization, which will play into the hands of the enemy, who can simply wait until we eat each other here in the fit of this sudden political struggle,” the political scientist concluded.
