Today Transnistria may announce a complete break with Moldova
Tiraspol - Kyiv, April 07 (Navigator - Mikhail Stamm) - Today, the President of Transnistria Yevgeny Shevchuk will address the people. Perhaps he will announce a complete severance of relations with Moldova. Transnistria will be followed by Gagauz autonomy, deputy of the Supreme Council of Transnistria Dmitry Soin told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.

Shevchuk’s refusal to negotiate to resolve the conflict in the “5+2” format with the participation of the Russian Federation, Ukraine, the OSCE, the EU and the United States will not affect Moldova’s plans to join the association with the European Union, says Moldovan political scientist Bogdan Tirdea.
However, in Chisinau they are confident that “if Russia is driven into a corner, it will recognize Transnistria, and at the same time Gagauzia.” Its head, Mikhail Formuzal, told NG that Gagauzia may raise the question of independence. The formation of its own National Guard has already begun there.
Tsyrdya reminds that Transnistria is “a tin can, to which the Russian Federation does not have corridors, like to Crimea.” Recently, Kyiv and Chisinau agreed to strengthen the customs and border blockade of the republic. Moldova and Ukraine fear that Russian troops stationed there will begin to break the blockade and are asking NATO for guarantees of protection. Romanian President Traian Basescu demands the same from the alliance.
NATO does not yet provide such guarantees.
Meanwhile, in response to Moldova’s actions, Russia may expel 600 thousand Moldovan guest workers from the country. Even if 200 thousand of them are sent home from Russia, then in the elections to the parliament of Moldova in the fall, the ruling pro-European alliance will lose part of its electorate - approximately 20%.
Member of the Moldovan Parliament Grigory Petrenko says that this will mean a change in power and foreign policy: “Some will sign an agreement with the EU, others will cancel it.”
The population of Moldova will support this course. As a survey conducted by the American service Lake Research Partners with the support of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) showed, over the past 12 months, 46% of Moldovan citizens surveyed were in favor of joining the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan union. 37% of respondents consider joining the EU to be the best option.
