Today’s global shutdown of Western social networks has taught Russian citizens a serious lesson – Zakharova
Today's large-scale disruption of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp should push Russia to create national platforms.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated this on the YouTube channel “Soloviev.live,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“You can talk theoretically as much as you like about the problem of the country’s information security, or you can use a specific example to explain what it is. It is very important for us now to understand and feel this moment in order to draw a conclusion about the need to create, build up and promote our own information resources.
Those people who said that they could not live without Youtube and without Twitter, today must ask themselves the question, what will happen to their business, creativity, self-expression, if suddenly someone, for some unknown reason, turns off what they are used to use. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the national segment of Internet platforms, the national sovereign Internet, and so on,” Zakharova said.
Today, users of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp in different countries, including Russia, are complaining about large-scale disruptions in the operation of these services. IT giants reported that they are working to eliminate the failures. Later, problems appeared with Telegram, Twitter, Google and TikTok services. It is reported that Mark Zuckerberg has already lost about $6,6 billion.
At the same time, the Russian social networks VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, and Telegram also experienced difficulties, but survived.
“Durov’s products work as reliably as Kalashnikov’s products,” economist Mikhail Delyagin commented on the situation in his Telegram channel.
