By canceling assistance to single mothers, the state wanted to save money, but the savings did not work out. Artur Palatny, head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Family, Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism, stated this at a meeting of the Conciliation Council of faction leaders and chairmen of committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Last year, the payment of child support to single mothers and widows in the minimum amount was cancelled. More than 240 thousand working women suffered from this reform. It’s interesting that, contrary to the stated intentions to save money, taxes from the state budget increased by UAH 900 million thanks to this so-called reform,” he said.

The deputy recalled that last year a bill was submitted restoring the guaranteed amount of child support to single mothers in the amount of 30% of the subsistence level.
