“This is the worst possible outcome for US well-being” – Atlantic Council
The current US President Donald Trump will not accept his election defeat.
Atlantic Council expert Professor Anders Aslund told Izvestia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, it is already clear that Joe Biden won the national vote and even set a record in the history of US presidential elections - almost 70 million votes.
“The problem is that Trump will undoubtedly challenge Biden's victory. Numerous cases will go to the highly politicized Supreme Court, where Trump has a solid majority. Right now, everything looks like the worst possible outcome for the well-being and democracy of the United States, says Aslund.
In turn, political scientist Eduard Lozansky says that Donald Trump already announced his victory at night, which means he will not simply admit defeat.
At the same time, Yuri Rogulev, director of the Franklin Roosevelt Foundation for the Study of the United States at Moscow State University, notes that the US Constitution does not provide for procedures for canceling elections, holding additional voting, a second round, and so on. He does not rule out that it may come to a recount of votes in one or two states, but not throughout the country.
