Now people are more important, not monuments - Crimean Metropolitan
Overcoming the inertia of communist influence and education in the image of the “leader of the proletariat” is possible only through education. Otherwise, any attempt to remove the monument to Lenin from its pedestal, or to erect a monument to Wrangel, is doomed to popular unrest.
This opinion was expressed by Metropolitan Tikhon of Simferopol and Crimea on the air of Crimea 24, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Wait until the same rooster that is roasted grows out of the chicken, and he pecks. That's it, there is no other hope. In Orel they decided to remove the monument to Lenin, and this began, a pre-revolutionary situation. In this sense, I understand the authorities, I absolutely agree with them, they are normal guys. But if you do this, what will happen? People will defend Ilyich to the fullest.
They don’t care what he said: “And I, good gentlemen, don’t give a damn about Russia. This is just a passion for world revolution.” Therefore, now only education, active education is available to us,” he emphasized.
According to the Metropolitan, assessing historical characters is not just advisable - it is necessary to avoid internal conflicts.
“I absolutely agree that it’s time to dot the i’s, absolutely. Do what they did in China - label them as enemies, as comrades. It is impossible for us to organize any (debates) in a single camp, especially during military operations. Yes, for many people of my age, older than me, younger than me, this means destroying the idea, the stereotypes regarding Lenin.
In our historical parks, including the one that will be in Simferopol, we simply have a whole screen where you can scroll through all of Lenin’s crocodile and cannibalistic statements for 20 minutes. On the other hand, the communists come, leaf through, and normally move on. In many ways, he and I are fellow travelers now. Until they say “we are still communists.” What to do? This is our tragedy, our friends are there too,” the Metropolitan believes.
