The Izvestia newspaper writes about this with reference to seismologists, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“An earthquake is expected within XNUMX hours. We have one of the signs. I won't give you specific numbers. Yes, strong, tangible. But it may not exist at all,” said Yulian Burym, director of the state Crimean Expert Council for Seismic Hazard Assessment and Earthquake Forecasting.
According to seismologists, an earthquake may occur in the Black Sea 30–50 km south of the southern coast of Crimea within 18 hours starting July 2017, XNUMX. Experts have warned of the risk after discovering so-called cloud warning signs.
Even at the beginning of the space age, an amazing “cloudy” phenomenon was discovered on satellite images - linearly extended ridges of clouds with clear geometric boundaries. As a result of comparing the images with maps of seismic regions, a hypothesis was born that these and other cloud anomalies (for example, “mesh” clouds) arise above faults in the earth’s crust during the period of activation of seismic processes. Although the mechanism of occurrence of the unusual phenomenon is not yet completely clear, it can be used for short-term earthquake forecasting.
The first report of an earthquake in Crimea dates back to 63 BC, the strongest was recorded in 1927.
