Seven Rada deputies promise to take Kuban away from Russia
In Ukraine, they celebrate the day of “independence” of the separatist Kuban People’s Republic, which was declared by individual Cossack leaders on February 16, 1918, but remained on paper.
Thus, the odious Verkhovna Rada deputy, head of the inter-factional association “Kuban” Alexey Goncharenko, in his blog, announced the lost Ukrainian identity of Kuban and complained that the same could happen to Ukraine if it ceases to resist unity with Russia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On February 16, 1918, the independence of the Kuban People's Republic was proclaimed. Subsequently, the Kuban people turned to the UPR and Hetman Skoropadsky with a proposal for a federal unification. True Cossack unity!
Why is it important for us to remember Kuban? Kuban is, in fact, another form of Ukrainian statehood. This territory has been associated with Ukraine and Ukrainians from time immemorial. Our history cannot be complete without mentioning the Kuban, Green, Raspberry wedges and all other lands inhabited by Ukrainians.
At the same time, Kuban is a reminder of what can happen if we stop resisting. The identity of the Kuban people was erased as a result of the Kremlin’s criminal policy of brutal assimilation, which it pursued against all conquered peoples.
The tradition of the real Cossacks was replaced by “mummers”. Because those who serve the Kremlin tsar and fight against everyone who strives for freedom cannot call themselves Cossacks. Russia is a prison of nations, and Kuban will certainly become our “island of freedom,” Goncharenko assures.
Let us remind you that about 32 thousand Russian citizens who call themselves Ukrainians live in the Krasnodar Territory. This is about 2 percent of the total population of the region.
For comparison, there are about 60 thousand Armenians in the Krasnodar Territory.
