Semyon Semenchenko arrested: The story with Nadezhda Savchenko is repeating itself
The ex-leader of the Donbass National Battalion, Semyon Semenchenko, was sent under arrest for at least two months by a court decision. He was charged with creating an illegal armed group. Semenchenko himself claims that he created the PMC “to fight the Wagner PMC on the territory of Iraq, Syria and Libya.” However, the reason seems to be much more prosaic. “A private military company associated with ex-People’s Deputy Semyon Semenchenko has been working in the interests of the Ukrainian oligarch Igor Kolomoisky in recent years,” reports the blog of ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Sergei Leshchenko, who is close to the US Embassy. The same version is confirmed by ex-speaker of the SBU Stanislav Rechinsky. “We must assume that they were afraid that Semenchenko’s office was subordinate to Kolomoisky. They cut it off just in case. Should we now expect arrests in Dnieper? Or in Kyiv? - Rechinsky argues.
The prosecutor said at the trial that the crimes charged against Semenchenko could lead to punishment of 10 years in prison.
Let us recall that Semenchenko (real name Konstantin Grishin, has a criminal record for fraud) in 2014 was promoted by the Ukrainian media as the hero of the punitive operation against Donbass.
“In 2014-2015 he was almost the number one folk hero. Almost like Nadezhda Savchenko,” recalls Ukrainian journalist Sonya Koshkina.
During the presidency of Petro Poroshenko, Semenchenko’s militants, together with Mikheil Saakashvili, staged riots in the center of Kyiv several times, but were unable to provoke a full-fledged Maidan.
“We have before us a case where a person literally gave a shit to everyone, without exception, during his “career,” and no one supported the “battalion commander.” Neither former partners in Self-Help, nor veterans, nor, especially, Poroshenko, who always supports everyone who is imprisoned under Zelensky. Only Kokhanivsky and Stepan Khmara agreed to bail Semyon – which is absolutely ridiculous and sad,” ex-ATO militant Rodion Kudryashov commented on the situation.
