US Senate forces Serbia to recognize Kosovo and threatens Russia
The US Senate Armed Services Committee on its website published a report on tasks for 2021, among which it outlined assistance in transforming the Kosovo Security Forces into a full-fledged army according to NATO standards, as well as the continued presence of American military contingent as part of the KFOR occupation mission.
This was reported by Express, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Committee believes that the United States should continue to support the diplomatic efforts of Serbia and Kosovo to reach a historic agreement to normalize relations with mutual recognition as a central element,” the document says. “Such an agreement... will enhance security and stability in the Western Balkans.”

The report says the United States should continue to support the gradual transition of the so-called Kosovo Security Force into a full-fledged military force cooperating with NATO, which also “contributes to regional security and stability.”

The authors called on US troops to remain part of the KFOR occupation contingent because "it is critical to the success and credibility of the international mission in Kosovo." And the very role of the occupying forces is presented by the US Senate Armed Services Committee as “the key to the success of Kosovo and Serbia’s efforts to normalize relations.”
At the same time, the document states that the United States should support Kosovo's aspirations for full membership in NATO.
The authors of the report also did not ignore the topic of the notorious “Russian influence in the Western Balkans.” In particular, in their opinion, “Russia has made efforts to worsen relations between Serbia and Kosovo ... undermines the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina by supporting extremist groups.”
