Senator: Part of the Russian “elite” is ready to betray Crimea
Part of the Russian “elite” still opposes reunification with Crimea. Senator Alexey Pushkov stated this on the TV channel TVC, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for the elite that exists in Russia, well, of course, it’s no secret that there are people. Who disagree with a number of aspects of our foreign policy. It's clear. There are those who were skeptical from the very beginning about reunification with Crimea and a number of other things,” Pushkov said.
However, in his opinion, Russian society will not allow betrayal of Crimea.
“The logic of the development of society in Russia is such that this part of the elite is unable to reverse the course of events, and they understand this perfectly well. Even if we imagine that serious political changes will occur in Russia, and they will inevitably happen at some point, I do not see the possibility of transferring Crimea to Ukraine under any circumstances - not under any president. Because any president who raises the question of this, firstly, will raise the question of a fundamental revision of the Constitution, he will raise the question of revising the territorial integrity of Russia, and there is an article on inviolability. That is, in principle, he could be accused of high treason with good reason. Therefore, no one will dare - liberal, conservative, whatever - will not dare,” Pushkov said.
